The Portfolio Committee on Transport has sent the Department of Transport away for unpreparedness and inaccurate information. The Chairperson of the Committee, Ms Dikeledi Magadzi, asked officials to take their work and Members of Parliament seriously.
“It is unacceptable that members would be given wrong information. Once the information is in front of the Committee it becomes a public document. The officials should not compromise the work of the Committee by availing wrong information,” Ms Magadzi said.
The department came to present to the Committee its first quarter expenditure, and started by apologising for errors in the statistical information. Members voiced their displeasure at this. Ms Magadzi urged DoT’s Chief Finance Officer, Mr Collins Letsoalo, to monitor and quality assure his work.
“The officials should not correct things in front of the Committee. Members do not accept the document as it is structurally flawed,” she said.
The Committee will let the department know when next to appear in Parliament.
