The Select Committee on Education and Recreation has noted with sadness the death of 11 educators in an accident between the bus in which they were travelling and another vehicle between Zeerust and Groot Marico in North West Province last week.
The committee sends its condolences to the bereaved families of all those who died in the accident.
"This is a huge blow to the family members, learners, schools and communities of the deceased. It is also a loss to the South African nation, at a time when our education system needs teachers more than ever before," said Committee Chairperson, Ms Mamosoeu Makgate.
The bus was ferrying the educators to National Professional Teachers Organisation of South Africa (NAPTOSA) conference that took place in Rustenburg.
The committee wishes the two educators and other passengers who are still in hospital a speedy recovery.
