Committee appeals for closer working relation with Auditor-General and Financial and Fiscal Commission

The Portfolio Committee on Mineral Resources has welcomed presentations from the Auditor-General (AG) and Financial and Fiscal Commission (FFC), appealing for closer working relations for mutual benefit.

Committee Chairperson, Mr Sahlulele Luzipho, says presentations have assisted the Members to understand the role of different state institutions, which will enhance them to conduct effective oversight.

“The two presentations will not only assist us for preparing for the Budgetary Review and Recommendation Report (BRRR), but will also assist the Committee to conduct effective oversight, with a full understanding of the sector,” Mr Luzipho said.

Officials from both offices of the A-G and FFC appeared before the Committee to make presentations on their constitutional mandates and how they can assist the Committee to discharge its work.

The Committee has asked the A-G’s office to develop a minimum framework for the oversight of BRRR while on the other hand, the FFC was asked to assist with a socio-economic impact report in relations to the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, in particular focusing on the possible separation of legislations between minerals and petroleum.
