Commissioner Moyane orders an investigation of a 'sjambokking' official

The Correctional Official that allegedly ‘sjambokked’ a member of the public as reported in the Sunday Times last week, is being investigated and could face possible disciplinary action by the Department of Correctional Services.

The official was ordered to submit a report and the department has begun with its investigation of allegations that the official may have acted in a manner that compromises the image and the reputation of the department. The correctional official allegedly ‘sjambokked a female motorist in a road-rage incident’ that was reported in the Sunday Times of last week.

National Commissioner Tom Moyane said the department takes the allegations very seriously as every member of the department in uniform has an obligation to represent the institution in a positive light in all what they say and do. He said she is presumed innocent until proven otherwise and therefore the steps taken are not punishment but an imperative to send a clear message to all that the department has ‘zero tolerance’ to this kind of conduct.
