The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) wishes to extend its sincere appreciation to the mothers of our society as they celebrate Mothers’ Day on Sunday (12 May 2013). The Commission wishes to salute the mothers for being pillars of strength to their families and particularly single mothers who raise children on their own.
Mothers’ Day has an important celebratory significance, as it reminds us of the role that mothers play in nurturing and caring of children. This is therefore an opportune moment to encourage all mothers to be proud of their role and status in their households and society as their presence represents warmth and love.
It is also critical that whilst mothers celebrate this day, men and boys must use this day to make a commitment to eradicate the scourge of gender-based violence (GBV) against women.
Therefore on this year’s occasion of Mothers’ Day, the CGE pays tribute to all mothers in the country and wishes them well and good health.
