The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) strongly condemns the unfortunate happenings at the Walter Sisulu University (WSU), where it is alleged that lecturers demand sexual favours in order to pass students.
The said allegations are of concern and require immediate action. The CGE has received a formal complaint from a student of WSU alleging gross sexual harassment or misconduct of lecturer at the Mthatha Campus. Accordingly, the CGE is in the throws of investigating the matter and is dedicated to ensuring that institutions of higher learning are free from gender oppression.
Moreover, the CGE calls upon those persons who have victims of sexual harassment at the hands of lecturers and others persons of authority to come forth and lodge complaints with our offices.
