The Eastern Cape MEC for Transport, Roads and Public Works, Thandiswa Marawu has called for an urgent need for collaboration between various spheres of government and private sector in order to bring better life for the people.
MEC said this during the official opening of the Mbizana Traffic Station and Taxi Rank, at Mbizana Sports grounds yesterday. "We have always been unambiguous about the fact that government alone cannot bring a better life for all our people, there is an urgent need for collaboration between various spheres of government, as we are witnessing today, and the private sector," said Marawu.
This is after Spar Super Market approached the Mbizana local municipality with the purpose of expanding its business, with municipality agreeing to this proposal, Spar built and furnished a R4.2 million Mbizana Traffic Station consisting of 13 offices, boardroom and duty room.
"On behalf of the Eastern Cape Department of Transport, I would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Spar group," MEC said adding that she also thank the Mbizana municipality for availing land for the new traffic station.
With regard to the R12 million taxi rank, she explained that the taxi rank has been fitted with some very impressive features, such as marked parking bays and most impressively 54 market stalls which are being utilised by small business owners for various services.
"This is a clear demonstration of our commitment to support Bus and Taxi business," said Transport MEC.
