The partnership between Limpopo Department of Cooperative Government, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA) and SABC Combo is surely bearing tangible fruits in the lives of the needy communities of Limpopo. Last Friday, November 11, 2011, the department led by the SABC Regional Manager, Mr Victor Ravhuanzwo handed over a fully furnished modern six-bedroomed house to the family of Mr Melton Shabangu and Mrs Jane Nkosi of Kotsiri village, Sekhukhune District. This is the family that recently made headlines, with 23 (twenty three) dependants, six of which are no longer living, and 17 alive and only have social grants as a means for survival. The eldest son, Moses was born in 1979 and is unemployed, and the only hope for the family, is 27 yrs old Joel who holds a matric certificate and the hope that one day his family situation will change for the better as he recently received a bursary to study Social Auxiliary Services.
Speaking during the actual handing over ceremony, Cllr. David Magabo, Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality, urged community development workers and everyone to work hand in clove to identify families with similar situations, as government will continue to provide necessary facilities its people. For this financial year, the department has changed lives of fives needy families in the province through the Celebrity Build programme.
The family was delighted to receive such a big house, where in his words Mr Melton Shabangu said “I would like to thank Government, contractor (NATMAB Construction & Project Managers), stakeholders including Jane-Furse furniture, and everyone who contributed in changing my life and my big family. We’ve been suffering for quite a long time. May the good Lord bless them” he concluded.
