CoGHSTA-SABC bond continues to shelter destitute families in Limpopo

The MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA), Mr Soviet Lekganyane officially handed over two well furnished houses to Mr Masia’s family and Ms Mafina’s family at Ga-Ratjeke Village in the Greater Letaba Municipality.

This was courtesy of the MEC of the Multi-Award winning CoGHSTA in collaboration with the Limpopo SABC Regional General Manager Mr Victor Ravhuanzwo.

Amongst the people that attended were members of the Greater Letaba Taxi Association, the Department of Education, the Department of Agriculture, and the Chieftaincy. The public was also given a chance to point out their concerns and complaints to the MEC which the MEC later addressed during his speech.

This festive season, the Mafina and Masia families at Ga-Ratjeke Village will enjoy their new quality living space, “I was always scared when at work thinking if my children are safe in that old house, but now I can work in peace knowing my children are safe at home in my new beautiful house” this were the tearful words coming from Ms Selina Mafina.

Mr Soviet Lekganyane also had a mouth full to say during public participation. Some of the things he addressed were that parents have to work hand in hand with teachers to build a better future for their children, and that poverty does not have to prevail in a household.

The houses these families lived in, were far from being humanly habitable, hence the response from the two organisations to their plight. This is a true sign of the union that proves that indeed, working together we can do more! It is against this backdrop that CoGHSTA MEC, and the SABC Regional Manager took a stand and made a partnership to help the needy by building houses and providing furniture and food parcels for some families.
