COGHSTA Limpopo is still the Best Service Delivery Human Settlements department in South Africa

The Limpopo Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA) has scooped the Best Service Delivery Department again. This follows the National Govan Mbeki Human Settlements Awards held at Gallagher Estate, 31 May 2012.

The purpose of the Govan Mbeki awards is to motivate all stakeholders in the housing industry to harness human and other resources in accelerating housing delivery to improve the lives of millions of our poor by building Sustainable Human Settlements, providing a choice of quality housing opportunities with secure tenure and access to water and sanitation and social, economic and recreational facilities.

The minister seeks to honour the role players in the housing value chain, including developers and building contractors that have committed to partner with government in building sustainable human settlements and making the millennium development goals achievable by 2014.

The department pockets a price cash of whooping R2 million, certificate and trophy after it has outplayed its counterpart provinces of Gauteng and Eastern Cape. Raesetja Property Developers representing Limpopo also got first runner-up for the Seshego Community Residential Unit (CRU) under category Best Rental Stock Project.

The delighted MEC for CoGHSTA, Mr Clifford Motsepe was accompanied by senior officials to collect the award. He has praised his department for being crowned Best Service Delivery Department for the second time in a row after the department has won in this category in the year 2008. "We have won this awards due to a number of partnerships and programmes we have embarked on as a department", said MEC Motsepe.

"We have managed to build no less than 20 000 houses in partnership with Anglo Platinum mine through the national "Each One Settle One" campaign. CoGHSTA is the only department that has initiated an innovative campaign called My Home My Pride, which seek to encourage housing beneficiaries to look after their property", he emphasised.

Early in May during the Limpopo Provincial Govan Mbeki awards MEC Clifford Motsepe has confidently promised that his department (CoGHSTA) which has been voted the best department provincially three times in a row will defend its position at the coming national Govan Mbeki awards.

Addressing members of the media at Gallagher Estate MEC Motsepe said that this is a true testimony that his department is committed to deliver quality services to the people of Limpopo through sustainable human settlements. Head of Department, Ms Manamela said added that Limpopo is the only Human Settlements department with a clean audit.

"I would like to thank the entire CoGHSTA staff for a job well done. Please continue to do a sterling job. The people of Limpopo deserve better and better services is what we will strive to achieve them at all costs", he said.
