The South African Police Service has noted various media reports regarding Lieutenant-General Mzwandile Petros’ term of office as Gauteng Provincial Commissioner. We wish to highlight that Lieutenant-General Petros has not resigned.
We can however confirm that Lt-General Petros announced that his contract with the South African Police Service was about to end. The announcement was made during a session with his management team last night.
Indeed his contract as Gauteng Provincial Commissioner ends on 15 August 2013. He served as Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape for a period of seven years and has been in the same position in Gauteng for almost three years.
Lt-General Petros and the National Commissioner General Riah Phiyega are in discussions about his contract and other matters. General Riah Phiyega will make an announcement in this regard in the near future.
