The department would like to clarify certain matters relating to Gambling Review Commission report which was released yesterday, 29 June 2011.
Firstly, with regard to the Commission’s proposal that no new casino licences be issued, the Minister indicated that he remains neutral with regard to this recommendation and will await recommendations from Parliament. The Minister further clarified that the status quo prevails and that no new forms of gambling will be permitted until the new framework is in place.
Application for additional licences for legally permitted gambling will be dealt with in terms of the current legislation.
