A 57-year-old sangoma who had his case of marrying a 13-year-old girl withdrawn in court in January 2013 has been arrested again.
The sangoma has allegedly sneaked into a place of safety where the child has been staying following social workers’ recommendations, and introduced himself as her uncle. He allegedly helped the girl to escape from the facility only to marry her again.
After realising that the child was missing the place of safety administrators contacted the social workers who, after looking at all possible destinations, found the girl at the house of the sangoma.
The man and his mother-in law (the girl’s mother) were arrest on Friday for contravening the court order and will appear before the Mokerong Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
