The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) congratulates the election of the first woman Chairperson of the Uthugulu House of Traditional Leaders, Inkosi VT Dube. As an institution tasked to promote gender equality, we firmly believe that the appointment in so many ways contributes towards gender equality and equity.
Her election therefore will definitely help to enhance the status and role of women in society. Inkosi Dube’s election comes at a critical time wherein patriarchy is being cited as one of the drawback towards an attainment of gender equality in the country.
It is only fair to salute men and women of the Uthugulu House of Traditional Leaders who have significantly contributed to the progressive future for women. As the CGE, we hope Inkosi Dube will use her position to advocate and lobby for a society free from gender oppression and inequality.
