Case of failed hijacking and attempted murder on Eastern Cape Provincial Police Commissioner still under investigation

The failed hijacking and attempted murder on the Provincial Police Commissioner on Saturday in Berlin is still under investigation and no arrests have been made.

Lieutenant-General Celiwe Binta escaped unharmed when five gunmen shot at her vehicle in Berlin on Saturday.

She reported for duty on Monday and performed her duties well. “This has not deterred her resolve to fight crime instead she is more determined to protect our people from criminals,” said MEC Helen Saul-August.

Police are also investigating the other incidents that ensued after the failed attack on the police commissioner that involve hijacking of car and a butchery robbed of an undisclosed amount in separate, but suspected to be related incidents.

“The investigation into all these criminal activities is on-going and no arrest have been made yet. Police are working tirelessly to apprehend the suspects,” says MEC Helen Sauls-August.
