Call for nominations to fill Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) board vacancies

The Portfolio Committee on Communications is inviting institutions and individuals to nominate suitable candidates to fill three vacancies of non-executive members of the Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) board.

Committee Chairperson Mr Ismail Vadi says formal advertisements have been placed in the 17 and 24 October 2010 weekend newspapers calling on the public to nominate persons for the three vacancies arising as a result of their contract ending as from 31 December 2010.  

Candidates will be eligible for nomination if they possess relevant qualifications, expertise and experience in the fields of:

  • Community media
  • Social, labour and development issues
  • Media economics, financial management and funding
  • Advertising and marketing
  • Journalism and broadcast programming
  • Media research
  • Media training, literacy and education
  • Media law
  • Information and communication technology policy.

The candidates must also be committed to fairness, freedom of expression, openness and accountability.

Mr Vadi explained that the Committee will compile a shortlist of candidates, conduct interviews and present its findings to the National Assembly for recommendation to the President for final appointment.

Nominations will close on 8 November 2010.
