Call for entities registered with the National Liquor Authority to renew licences

The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) would like to urge all National Liquor Authority (NLA) macro manufacturers and distributors of liquor due for renewal to submit their annual information returns and pay the prescribed fees.

Every entity registered with the NLA is required in terms of the National Liquor Act, No. 59 of 2003 to renew its registration on an annual basis by filing the NLA 28 Form and paying the prescribed fee at least one month before the expiry date of their registration certificate. Renewals should be accompanied by the requisite supporting documents and proof of payment.

Registrants are required to furnish the office with the following information when submitting a renewal application:

 New commitments made during the past year towards Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) 

  1.  New commitments made during the past year towards combating alcohol abuse and/or affiliation to an industry association.
     
  2.  Financial interest acquired by the registrant, shareholders, members, partners or beneficiaries of the applicants or proposed transferees in the previous year of registration.
     
  3.  The extent to which the registrants’ activities in the coming year would affect the following new entrants in to the liquor industry; job creation; diversity of ownership; efficiency of operation export and competition within the industry.
     
  4.  Registrant’s annual turnover and employment plan.
     
  5.  Other additional information may be requested from the registrants based on the conditions imposed.

    Annual renewal fee structure is as follows:

Trading without a valid registration certificate is a criminal offence. Penalties incurred for failing to renew registration is an amount not exceeding R1 000 000 or imprisonment for a period not exceeding five years.

Those who are in doubt of the validity of their registration certificates are urged to contact the dti, National Liquor Authority.
