Bushbuckridge Municipality is now designated as a business licensing authority in terms of the Mpumalanga Business Act (No.2 of 1996)

Mpumalanga MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism, Mr Norman Mokoena has designated the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality as a Business Licensing Authority, in terms of Section 2(1) (a) of the Mpumalanga Business Act (Act No. 2 of 1996), with effect from 5 July 2011. This has resulted in the Municipality having the authority to issue business licenses for its area of jurisdiction, including its traditional local areas.

"During our recent interaction with the business people in the Bushbuckridge area at Thulamahashe, it transpired that the Municipality was inundated with backlogs for business license applications. It is safe to mention that the newly appointed Business License Authority has successfully addressed all the compliant business license application backlogs, in order to empower people to start businesses, and create jobs in their locality," explained MEC Mokoena.

"There were 226 compliant applications awaiting adjudication by the Business Licensing Authority, all have been approved," added MEC Mokoena.

People in the liquor industry, who hold liquor licenses, are also reminded to ensure that they trade responsibly and within the ambit of the prescribed liquor legislation, which is the liquor Act, (Act no. 27 of 1989 as amended).

The said Act stipulates that trading hours for different licenses are to be adhered to; sale of liquor to minors and already intoxicated people is prohibited; structures that are altered must be approved by the Provincial Liquor Board; liquor licensed outlets in residential areas must also ensure that they are compliant with the Act, and do not create nuisance in terms of the Municipal Ordinances and by-laws.
