Bulgarian to apply for bail

Today, the 38 year old, Todor Dimitrov Terziev, appeared briefly in the Johannesburg Commercial Crimes court, for allegedly contravening the Electronic Communications Act.

Terziev was arrested on Saturday, 1 October 2011, at the OR Tambo International Airport, during a joint operation by the South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Intelligence, the Cyber Crimes investigation and the Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigation (HAWKS).

The SAPS Intelligence received intelligence that, Todor Dimitrov Terziev, will be arriving in South Africa via OR Tambo International airport on Saturday morning with sophisticated equipment to create skimming devices. Such devices are meant for the duplication of bankcards, which has the potential of enabling a person or persons to commit fraud in the millions if not billions rands.

At 09h30am today, Terziev was intercepted as he arrived at the Airport from Bulgaria. During the search of the target, he was found in possession of two devices used to manufacture hi-tech skimming devices, two laptops, and five cellular phones. All of this equipment was seized as exhibits.

Terziev has been remanded in custody and he will appear in court on Wednesday, 5 October 2011, for a formal bail application.
