This morning the Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development MEC Ntombi Mekgwe brightened up learners’ first day at school by providing brand new school uniform.
Learners at Blair-athol pre-primary school in Kromdraai west of Johannesburg were given uniform as part of thedepartmental annual school uniform project, which forms part of the broader Provincial project called Bana Pele (Putting Children First).
To date, this annual initiative has provided 250 000 needy children with school uniform. By the end of March this year the project aims to provide additional 100 000 vulnerable learners with school uniform. Today Gauteng MECs distributed 2 647 school uniforms at various schools throughout the province.
Speaking at Kagiso High School where she was distributing uniform and motivating learners MEC Mekgwe said “learners shouldbe focused on their studies and work to their best of their abilities”.
