Bogus cops nabbed in Marble Hall

The police in Marble Hall have arrested four suspects masquerading as police officials in connection with the case of kidnapping.

It is reported the suspects were targeting bank clients in Marble Hall last Friday. The suspects allegedly followed a 70 year old man who withdrew money from the bank. He was then smeared with an unknown substance. One of the suspects who pretended to be a police official, then warned the old man that his money will disappear because of the smearing. He was then advised to seek help from a bogus police colonel. Before the old man could be tricked to hand over his money to the bogus colonel, the police pounced on the suspects.

The trick used by the suspects was monitored by police for some time after the hue and cry by unsuspecting bank clients around Marble Hall. Most of the people fell victim after they were tricked into believing that their money will disappear after being smeared. The victims will then be told to hand over their money for the spell to be removed by a traditional healer. The money is then put into an envelope and in the process; the victim will be given an envelope filled with pieces newspapers. The victim is then told not to open the envelope until he/she reaches home.

The four suspects appeared before the Groblersdal Magistrates court. The suspects are David Malapule(41), Mpho Nhlabeni(33), Sylvester Masebe(34) and Malose Mashishi(39). They are all from Mokopane. The case was postponed to 23 April 2013. They were granted bail of R1500 each.
