Bogus college kingpin arrested, again

Hangwani Mukwevho (57), who is in the dock for running a bogus FET college, was arrested again on Saturday morning in the police holding cells, just hours after he was remanded in custody by the Seshego Magistrate Court last Friday.

Mukwevho was arrested for a similar case after the Hawks unearthed that he was the owner of Kgapane FET College which is also not registered with the Department of Education. The suspected fraudulent documents indicate that the college, which started is operations in 2010, is also registered as Bela Bela Technical College.

Mukwevho and another 31-year-old accomplice, who was also bust on Saturday, will appear before the Bolobedu Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

A fortnight ago Mukwevho and his wife, Olebile Monica Mukwevho (45) and business associate Avhapfani Dalton Mululuma (31) were arrested for running Seshego FET College without registering it with the department of higher education. The three have been behind bars since then with the police investigation are continuing.

Police have learnt with great concern that there are people who are turning Seshego FET College students against the police. They are misleading the students into marching against the arrest of Mukwevho, saying they want him released and college reopened.

Some of the misled students were marching during Mukwevho’s court appearance at Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Friday, some of them carrying placards written messages such as “The college is registered we want to go back to school” and “Education comes first, I want to attend before it is too late”.

These actions are aimed at tempering with the investigations of the police and such actions will not be tolerated. Police are urging all previous and current students of both Seshego FET College and Kgapane FET College to go to their nearest police station to furnish their particulars.

This is done for the police to have a database of all robbed students and prevent them from being arrested as having applied for positions using fake certificates.
Mukwevho together with his wife and accomplice will also be in the dock on Wednesday at Seshego Magistrate’s Court for bail application.
