The annual Premier Service Excellence awards ceremony took place over the weekend to honour and recognise public servants who go beyond the call of duty in the quest to deliver good quality services to the citizens of Limpopo.
The Department of Local Government and Housing was announced as the best department in Limpopo.
In his acceptance speech, The MEC for Local Government and Housing, Ntate Soviet Lekganyane said: “It is humbling to be recognised in this manner for trying to do our best to serve our people. Our mission is to ensure that every family that needs shelter gets a decent home. We are about making local government responsive, effective and efficient. We shall always strive to do better than yesterday”.
He thanked the people of Limpopo for their partnership and continued support.
One of the notable achievements by the department is the completion of over 16 500 homes in a single financial year exceeding the target of 13 000. This is a first for Limpopo.
This is what the adjudicators said: “The department demonstrated a high level of integrated planning and demonstrated programmes put in place in meeting the objectives of the department in an effective and efficient manner, which resulted in the department receiving an unqualified audit report”.
The department’s help desk was also recognised as the best service delivery team of the year. Both awards are in platinum and are worth R150 000 each!!
The department is still holding the title of best provincial housing department having won the National Govan Mbeki Housing award.
The MEC has credited his departmental staff for the achievements and urged them to work even harder and reach all corners of the province in the quest to improve the lives of people.
