Basket of services for Umjindi people

Mpumalanga people will celebrate Human Rights day on Monday, 21 March 2011 at the Umjindi Stadium in the Ehlanzeni Region.

The celebration will commence with a service delivery programme where Premier DD Mabuza, MECs, councillors and Members of the Legislature will hand over houses, furniture, sport attires, gym equipments and renovate a local school in Umjindi as part of leaving a legacy in the area. The items will be handed over to identified beneficiaries.

The theme for Human Rights day in the province is: “Equity in the realisation of Child Rights in South Africa.”

MEC for Culture, Sport and Recreation, Ms Sibongile Manana says the provincial government does not go to people with the sole aim of celebrating national days but it also brings a basket of services to hosting areas to respond to the needs of the community.

"We want people in the province to say that the hosting of this national day brought positive changes into our lives as we saw that the poor of the poor who previously did not have a roof over their heads were given proper houses and young people were also given bursaries among others and this is the approach that our celebrations will continue to take,” says MEC Manana.

The celebration will also feature local and national artists like Ntombi Ngcobo, Wandile Moyo, Blank Page and Ziyangegugu.

Buses will be available in all the local municipalities in the Ehlanzeni Region which are Bushbuckridge, Nkomazi, Thaba Chweu, Umjindi and Mbombela. They will start departing from various areas in these municipalities at 06h00 in the morning and people can contact their local councillors for transport arrangements.
