Accelerated Schools Infrastructure Delivery Initiative upgrades school in under privileged community in the Western Cape

It was a bright day for Delta Senior Primary School learners in Dafda, Western Cape, as their school became the 3rd beneficiary of a completed Accelerated Schools Infrastructure Delivery Initiative (ASIDI) school in the Province. Through this initiative government intends to phase out all inappropriate school structures to ensure that every child enjoys learning under the umbrella of democracy.

The MEC for the Western Cape Department of Education, Debbie Schafer, officially handed over Delta Senior Primary School in Cape Town on 2 October 2014. The DBE is building 25 schools in the Western Cape and six (6) schools have already been completed as part of the project. In her address, the MEC told teachers to work hard to ensure that they transform the young minds of future leaders in the province and beyond. She advised parents, teachers and learners to take care of the new facility for the benefit of future generations.

Also speaking at the event, former Principal, Mrs Brigette Jacobs, encouraged learners and teachers alike to safeguard the new facilities. Learners also expressed their gratitude to Government for the new school. Keesher Mentor, a Grade 7 learner, was enthusiastic about the improved access to technology.

“I am very happy about the new school. We are proud to have a school with a dance floor, because I love dancing, and the science lab and library are valuable assets” she said.
