Aurora Grootvlei miners paid

The Department of Labour in Springs paid the sum of R800 000.00 to Aurora Grootvlei miners over three days. These follows after the department took a case to get an undertaking from the employer (Aurora Mines) to pay workers after failing to reimburse them for a year. The department issued a compliance order for the payment of workers that were included on it (Compliance Order). Aurora Grootvlei mine deposited an amount of R2.033 million into the department’s account to facilitate payment of workers.

During the pay-out exercise many workers arrived to claim monies due to them, but we could not assist because they have not lodged a formal complaint and their information could not be verified, resulting in them being excluded from the payment schedule. About 300 workers did not arrive to collect their payment.

“We urge them to visit Springs Labour Centre with verifiable bank details so that bank transfer can be facilitated. Those who are not on schedule must come to the labour centre to lodge a formal complaint and must bring along information to support their claim”.

Our offices are open from 07h30 to 16h00 Monday to Friday, except on the 24 and 31 December 2010 whereby offices will be closed at 10h00.
