The Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Lindiwe Sisulu, has acceded to the request and authorised the employment of South African National Defence Force (SANDF) members to assist the National Department of Health in terms of Section 18 (1) of the Defence Act, 2002.

Members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) have since been employed to the hospitals affected by the labour action of civilian medical personnel.

Multi-disciplinary medical teams from the SANDF are employed in KwaZulu-Natal to ensure that service delivery is not compromised.
