Today, 28 June 2013, the Northern Cape High Court issued a freezing order over two assets of Mr John Block to an estimated value of just over R20 million.
The assets are:
- An Upington guest house belonging to Mr Block with an estimated value of R500 000 where the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) is seeking to recover the value of improvements made to the guesthouse to the value of R380 000
- 10 ordinary shares worth about R20 million in companies in the Trifecta Group belonging to Mr Block.
The court will decide at a later date whether the provisional order should be confirmed.
The assets were frozen on the basis of evidence presented to court by the AFU in the NPA that they were part of corrupt payments by companies in the Trifecta group to Mr Block and others. The order is part of a series of freezing orders obtained by the AFU in the Trifecta matter.
AFU freezing order against other assets confirmed
In a separate but related case, the High Court also confirmed a provisional freezing order obtained by the AFU on 10 May 2013 to freeze 10 ordinary shares (worth about R20m) in companies in the Trifecta Group.
The shares had been awarded to the Poliyana Property Trust in which Mr Alvin Botes and his wife are Trustees and their two children are beneficiaries. Mr Botes and the Trust did not oppose the confirmation of the order.
