Appointment of the NPA CEO approved

The appointment of Adv Karen van Rensburg has been approved by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Jeff Radebe, in terms of the NPA Act paragraph 15 (1) ©. Adv van Rensburg has been on this position in an acting capacity since April 2011.

The CEO position in the NPA is a delegated authority by the Director General of the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development. Thus, the CEO becomes an accounting officer for the NPA. The role of this delegated function is therefore to ensure the effective and efficient management and use of NPA resources to achieve set objectives and to ensure good governance. During her tenure as acting CEO, the NPA achieved unqualified audit status with matters of emphasis to note.

Adv van Rensburg, a prosecutor by profession, grew up within the legal fraternity ranks. She has held various management positions as early as 1997. These include the following: Senior Public Prosecutor in Kempton Park, Boksburg and Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Courts.

At the establishment of the NPA, she was nominated by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the time to participate in the national team that was responsible for the development of the first Prosecution Policy Directives for the NPA.

During her long tenure with the NPA, she also served as the regional head of the now defunct DSO in East London, Eastern Cape. After she completed a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) she then moved to head office taking up acting Executive Manager, Strategy position. In this capacity she was responsible, inter alia, for strategic, financial management, individual performance as well as operations management.

Adv van Rensburg is well versed in national priorities both for government and the NPA and has a sound knowledge of the strategic objectives, indicators and targets for the NPA. She has been an advisor to the NPA on Enterprise Performance Management for a number of years.
