Appointment of New Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on track

The Ministry of Transport wishes to state that the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) is on track, following the contract of the former CEO, Mr. Ranthoko Rakgoale, which ended in December 2011.

Earlier today (Wednesday), 25 January 2012, Minister Ndebele was handed a Memorandum by RTMC employees requesting a resolution to various issues.

“Putting the RTMC in order has been one of our most urgent tasks. We are currently on track to appoint a new CEO of the RTMC, following the contract of the former CEO ending in December 2011.The RTMC was established for cooperative and coordinated strategic planning in respect of road traffic matters by the national, provincial and local spheres of government. It is therefore of paramount importance that this agency functions effectively and efficiently to fulfill its mandate,” said the Minister.

Meanwhile, Minister Ndebele earlier today (25 January) met with Mr Ephriam Mphahlele (President) and Mr Zenzo Mahlangu (General Secretary) of the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) in Pretoria. Matters discussed at the meeting included the following:

  • Funding of road construction;
  • Road safety and the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO);
  • Aviation Training; and
  • Rail rolling stock acquisition.
