The Free State Provincial Treasury announces the appointment of Mr M.N.G. Mahlatsi as its new Chief Executive Officer with effect from 1 October 2013. The vacancy in the position of CEO arose from the retirement of the former CEO, Mr Humphrey Kgomongwe, at the end of August this year.
Mr Godfrey Mahlatsi brings to the Provincial Treasury not only the benefit derived from his post-graduate academic qualifications but also his extensive experience in the private and public financial sector. He served in the local government sphere as Chief Financial Officer and Municipal Manager before joining the provincial government where he has served as the Chief Financial Officer of the Department of the Premier and more recently as the Chief Financial Officer of the Department of Public Works.
Under his management and leadership as Chief Financial Officer, the Department of the Premier obtained its “clean audit” status during the 2010/11 financial year and maintained the audit status in the subsequent financial years. As Chief Financial Officer of the Department of Public Works, his leadership brought about significant improvements in the financial management environment of the department.
Mr Mahlatsi will provide the strong and stable leadership and guidance to the Provincial Treasury and Free State provincial government that are required to sustain and promote assurance on sound financial management practices, compliance with legislation and accountability in the province.
