Appeal to motorists to drive with caution on flooding North West roads

North West Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison’s Call Centre
received reports of flooding on several roads due to heavy rains experienced on
Wednesday as from 4:00 pm. The affected roads are the R30 Klerksdorp- Ventersdorp, R53 Ventersdorp-Potchefstroom, R506 Schweizer Reneke- Delarayville,
and R507 Delarayville-Ottosdal roads.

Provincial traffic authorities wish to advise motorists of the temporary closure of the
R30 Ventersdorp-Klerksdorp road and appeal to motorists to use the alternative
road, i.e. the R53 Ventersdorp- Potchefstoom road then the N12 to Klerksdorp. Motorists travelling along the afected roads are adivised to reduce speed and drive with caution. Motorists travelling between Schweizer Reneke and Delarayville from are advised to opt for the N14 Vryburg-Delarville road as an alternative road.

An accident caused by flooding claimed the life of a 57 year old woman passenger
and injuries on Sunday on the R30 Ventersdorp-Klerksdorp road after two vehicles
collided at around 7:30 pm near Buffelsvlei road. The accident  occurred after a Toyota Auris that was driving from Ventersdorp towards Klerksdorp spun in the water on the road and was hit by a Opel Corsa that was driving in the opposite direction.
