The recently launched investigations on allegations of misconduct in the North West Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Human Settlements Branch has led to the suspension of another senior manager in the Department.
Housing Development Chief Director, Mr Ndoda Mgengo was suspended with immediate effect from August 13, 2012. His suspension came just a week after the Head of Department (HoD), Mr Thupi Mokhatla’s suspension following the said allegations.
Announcing the precautionary suspension of Mr Mgengo, the Departmental MEC, Nono Maloyi said the department will continue observing the jurisprudence of presumption innocence until proven otherwise.
Mr Mgengo is also prohibited from entering the premises of the department without prior written permission from the Acting HoD, Mr Monnapula Motlogelwa. Mgengo was further suspended with full remuneration and benefits.
In ensuring that service delivery is not stalled as a result of these processes, MEC Maloyi has since appointed Mr Malefane Motsumi as Acting Chief Director Housing Development with immediate effect.
He further called upon senior management members within the department to provide Mr Motsumi with necessary support and cooperation during his term of acting while investigations continue.
The investigation team was since appointed immediately after the suspension of the HoD, and the team is expected to release its preliminary report sometime next week.
“We are expecting the preliminary report from investigators next week, which will outline findings since the investigation was launched,” said Maloyi.
According to MEC, the final investigation report will determine the way forward whether to conduct a disciplinary hearing for the two suspended senior officials or to clear their names.
