ANCYL/COSAS call is misguided

The Ministry of Basic Education has noted the call by the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) and Congress of South African Students (COSAS) for Minister Angie Motshekga to resign within two weeks. A high profile Presidential Task Team has concluded its investigation and handed the report to the Presidency. The Ministry of Basic Education wonders why the ANCYL and COSAS cannot wait for the report to be released publicly before making their call.

On Monday, 30 July 2012 the National Executive Committee Lekgotla of the African National Congress released a statement citing particular directives for the department to strengthen its capacity, to which the department subsequently responded with a fresh commitment. It is interesting to note that the ANCYL/COSAS was part of that decision taken at the Lekgotla.

The Department of Basic Education will continue its intervention work in the Limpopo Department of Education. Tomorrow, Wednesday, 1 August Minister Motshekga will be back in Limpopo to continue her oversight role in the implementation of Section 100 (1) (b), and also meet with principals of schools in the Capricorn district.
