Allegations that municipal councillors and officials behind violence worrisome - North West Premier Thandi Modise

North West Premier Thandi Modise has expressed concern about allegations that some of Ditsobotla Local Municipality councillors and municipal officials are instigators of the violence that has erupted in Bodibe and Itsoseng Township outside Lichtenburg.

“The allegations that Expanded Public Works Programme beneficiaries have been coerced to participate in the anarchy is worrying and also needs to be investigated,” said Premier Modise in condemning the violence.

Modise has urged police not to leave any stone unturned to unmask those behind the criminality which has resulted in blockade of roads, burning of tyres, looting of shops, looting and destruction of private and public properties.

“Plunging communities into mayhem without regard for the rule of law and or following engagement processes to further narrow personal interests is not only myopic but reactionary,” the Premier said.

Premier Modise and members of the Executive Council intervention task team are scheduled to engage with residents regarding the unrest and provincial intervention at the Itsoseng Stadium tomorrow afternoon at 14h00.
