Alistair Campbell in South Africa to share experiences with communicators

British relations expert Alistair Campbell is in South Africa at the invitation of the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) to share lessons and experiences with government communicators.

Mr Campbell will interact with South Africa’s government communicators at a two-day Government Communicators’ Forum (GCF) taking place at the Gallagher Estate, Midrand, on 28 and 29 March 2011.

Mr Campbell is a writer, communicator and strategist best known for his role as former British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s spokesman, press secretary and director of communications and strategy.

After the 1997 election in Britain, Mr Campbell became Prime Minister Blair’s Chief Press Secretary and Official Spokesman, which entailed the coordination of Government Communications and twice daily briefings of the press.

As part of its mandate to capacitate government communicators, the GCIS invited Mr Campbell to share some of the experiences he’s gained during his stint in the British government, focusing on the lessons that are relevant and applicable to the South African environment.

The GCF is held once a quarter and Mr Campbell joins a list of experts in media and communications who have been invited to interact with government communicators and enrich their practice.
