Advocate Stanley Khanyile has been re-appointed to head Eastern Cape’s Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs Department (DLGTA) as its Superintendent General.
A decision, which was sealed during the week with Adv Khanyile accepting the Eastern Cape Government’s offer, will see him leading the DLGTA for the next five years.
His previous three-year employment contract with the Provincial Administration drew to a close at the end of March 2013 and the post was advertised along with those of other Heads of Departments including Public Works, Education.
Welcoming Adv Khanyile’s re-appointment, MEC for DLGTA, Mlibo Qoboshiyane said he wished to stress that the next chapter of improving local government in the province needs people like Adv Khanyile.
“Adv Khanyile brings to this job not only his knowledge of the department and the provincial terrain but also rare attributes, prowess, wisdom and percipient leadership needed to navigate the local government labyrinth.”
His re-appointment must inspire him to ensure top-drawer performance in discharging his responsibilities, something that must be done with assurance, added MEC Qoboshiyane.
“The decision to re-appoint Advocate Khanyile to this position is a leadership function to improve the lives of the people through effective, clean and responsive administration,” said MEC Qoboshiyane.
Adv Khanyile, who resumed his duties towards the end of last week, promised to do all in his power to improve the performance of municipalities and that of the department.
"Municipalities are intimate with the issues, aspirations, needs and demands of the people because of their proximity. We have a moral and constitutional responsibility to ensure that each of our 45 municipalities delivers services to our communities."
Added to this responsibility is to ensure that Traditional leadership institutions work hand in glove with communities and municipalities,” said Adv Khanyile.
