It occurs through various circumstances that one’s matric certificate may be lost / damaged or be found with slight administrative errors; under certain circumstances one may need to change his / her particulars on the matric certificate.
The re-issuing or replacement of the National Senior Certificate is executed within the Department of Basic Education through the Public Certificates Division. It is at this division were queries related to matric certificates are addressed. Any queries regarding NCV, N1, N2, N3, N4, N5 and N8 should be referred to the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), which is responsible for post matric certificates.
There are several procedures regarding matric certificates that need to be noted for the following set of circumstances: when one is applying for a re-issue of a certificate; change of particulars; administrative errors; alteration of sex description and sex status; applying for the replacement of a certificate and lost or damaged matric certificates. In order to change your name on your matric certificate, you must apply to the Department of Basic Education (DBE) or your nearest Provincial Education Department (PED) by completing the re-issues application form. It is advisable that you go to the nearest DBE / PED offices in person so that the relevant officials can interview you for security reasons. In a case where your certificate is torn, you must return the damaged certificate to the Department (DBE / PED) and apply for a replacement certificate.
