Ad Hoc Committee on security upgrades to continue with its work

The Ad Hoc Committee established to consider submissions by President Jacob Zuma in response to the Public Protector’s report regarding security upgrades at his Nkandla private residence has taken note of Members of Parliament from opposition parties walking out of the Committee proceedings today.

Committee Chairperson, Mr Cedric Frolick, says the Committee will however continue with its work and mandate given to it by the National Assembly. “According to the rules of Parliament, a Committee will continue to function for as long as it has a quorum. Clearly, we still have a quorum,” explains Mr Frolick. Mr Frolick adds that MPs are within their rights to walk out of the meeting. But this does not mean the work of the Committee stops.

The Committee will continue to look at the recommendations made in the reports. “Then we will produce a draft report before a final report will be adopted by the Committee and then sent to the National Assembly,” says Mr Frolick.

The Committee will reconvene next week to continue its work.
