One suspect is dead and one is in police custody after a more than 100km high speed chase on the N1 north of Kroonstad. A driver of vehicle with Swaziland registration numbers failed to stop at a ‘Stop and Search’ on the outskirts of Kroonstad on Saturday afternoon. The Free State Department of Economic Development, Tourism, Environmental Affairs and Small Business Development Green Scorpions gave chase and the driver lost control and the vehicle capsized.
Abalone estimated at more than R3 million was discovered and police were called. The paramedics certified one suspect dead and the other one was taken into custody and is being questioned by police. MEC Zwane congratulated the officials for swift and vigilant action and wished them well in their endeavours to fight environmental crime at all times.
