30 year old mother arrested for hacking baby to death

Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Fanie Masemola on Sunday expressed outrage and shock at yet another murder of a toddler at Ha-Mutsha village, just outside Thohoyandou on Friday evening.

Reports suggest, a 30 year mother was seen hacking one of her 3 months old baby twins with an axe by community members whom immediately alerted the police. While the police were racing to crime scene, some frantic community members managed to rescue the other twin whom she allegedly wanted to kill, contained the mother, until she was detained by the police.

The badly injured baby was rushed to Tshilidzini hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The motive for the killing is unknown and the suspect will make her first court appearance at Vuwani Magistrate Court on Monday (tomorrow).

Meanwhile, last week 20 month Xitsunduxo Baloyi from Letsitele , just outside Tzaneen died after she was allegedly strangled before being thrown into a pit toilet. The mother Christina Makhanani Baloyi (20) is still in custody and will apply for bail on June 2, 2014 at Ritavi Magistrate Court.

“I am deeply saddened and this madness has to stop. My heartfelt condolences to the families of the young one and promise as the police that we will do everything to ensure this women they stay in jail for a long time. My gratitude to community members for steeping in and mamaged to avoid a double tradegy,”said Masemola.
