Prospective applicants applying for fishing rights in the KZN Prawn Trawl, Demersal Shark, Squid, Tuna Pole, Hake Hand Line, White Mussels, Oysters and Traditional Linefish fishing sectors as part of the 2013 FRAP may approach the department for copies of documentation as follows:
1. A copy of the letter granting the long-term commercial fishing right:
Applicants do not have to follow the procedure in terms of PAIA (Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2/2000) to obtain copies of their rights letters. Instead, the Department will assist applicants by releasing a confirmation letter that the applicant is indeed a Rights Holder as per our Rights Register and that this confirmation will replace the rights letter for the purposes of the 2013 FRAP. Applicants may email nadiner@daff.gov.za or thelisam@daff.gov.za to request copies of these letters.
2. Copies of catch permits issued by the department for the seasons 2007 through 2012:
Applicants do not have to follow the procedure in terms of PAIA to obtain copies of their catch permits. Instead, applicants should provide copies of permits for those years in their possession. For those years where applicants do not have copies, permit numbers should be provided. The department will assist applicants by posting a list of permits issued on the departmental website at www.daff.dov.za/ fisheries management/allocation of rights/2013 for the purposes of the 2013 FRAP. Applicants could get permit numbers from that list.
3. Catch statistics:
Applicants do not have to follow the procedure in terms of PAIA to obtain their catch statistics. Instead, applicants should provide catch information for those years in their possession. For those years where applicants do not have catch information, an explanation should be provided as an annexure.
4. Statements as proof of payment of levies:
Applicants do not have to follow the procedure in terms of PAIA to obtain these statements. Instead, applicants should call the Finance component at 021-402-3016/3290/3334 or e-mail sarahb@daff.gov.za, siyasangaq@daff.gov.za or gloriar@daff.gov.za to obtain these statements.
