We note the Cape Argus and Sunday Tribune (online) newspaper reports of today, 12 October 2009 headlined “2010 terror: South Africa not ready.”
We cannot provide details of an operational nature and as such will not confirm or deny the media report in yesterday’s Sunday Independent, 11 October 2009.
Our security preparations for 2010 are well underway. We are on top of the situation and confident of hosting a secure soccer world cup event.
The intelligence services and police are working closely to provide the security needed for such an event. Our blue print for hosting international events has proved successful in the past. We have also benefited from the experiences of other countries that have previously hosted the World Cup, as well as shared our own approach to ensuring high level security.
We are continuing with our work and will not be diverted by information peddlers.
