2010 FIFA World Cup special operations nets 10 for drunken driving

Ten drivers were arrested for drunken driving in a special road traffic law enforcement operation conducted by North West Public Safety in and around the 2010 FIFA World Cup Host city of Rustenburg on Friday night.

North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa says that the province has shifted its focus to crime prevention and road traffic law operations as it has concluded its quota of matches that it had to host.

"The onslaught on lawlessness will be sustained to prevent opportunistic crime, ensure safety of citizens and football fans and safer roads," vows Yawa.

MEC Yawa observed that though the province has had unprecedented increased traffic volumes since the football world cup commenced, lesser road accidents and fatalities occurred as compared to festive and Easter Arrive Alive operations.
