102 motorists arrested for outstanding traffic fines in Rustenburg

In a precursor of what motorists who ignore payment of traffic fines issued them for traffic violations should expect over the festive season, North West Public Safety Traffic Enforcement Unit, nicknamed JAWS, arrested and served warrants of arrests to 102 motorists with outstanding traffic fines in Rustenburg on Tuesday and recouped R51 540.

A 54 years male old truck driver with 18 outstanding traffic fines to the value of R11 310 was among the motorists arrested. A driver employed by the same company as the said driver was arrested three weeks ago for 19 outstanding traffic fines to the value of R11 120. Both were only released after paying the fines.

In the past week, 209 motorists were arrested and served with warrants for outstanding traffic fines in Taung, Vryburg and Ganyesa and R81 460 recouped.

The arrests bring to 1 404 warrants of arrests served on motorists since the unit embarked on a province wide special operation to arrest motorists for unpaid fines. The operation in its fourth week has thus far recouped close to R558 460 through warrants of arrests served on motorists.
