Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe arrived in Sweden this morning, 9 October 2009, ahead of the Olof Palme Day Conference, being held in Stockholm.
The conference, with the theme "From Liberation to Freedom" is hosted by the Olof Palme International Conference Centre, in honour of the late Prime Minister of Sweden, Mr Olof Palme.
On Saturday, 10 October 2009, Deputy President Motlanthe will start the day by laying a wreath at the grave of the former Prime Minister of Sweden Mr Olof Palme. He will have an informal lunch with the leader of the Social Democratic Party, Ms Mona Sahlin and later attend the Olof Palme Day Conference.
In the afternoon, Deputy President Motlanthe will meet with members of the Swedish Business Community and the Sweden Solidarity Groups, separately. His visit to Sweden is part of the strengthening of the historical relations between the people of South Africa and the Swedish civil society.
Deputy President is expected to return to South Africa on 11 October 2009, after the last session of the Olof Palme Day Conference.
