“Runaway” IT expert alleged to have defrauded Department of Labour’s Compensation Fund (CF) to appear

Kenneth Martin Mahuluhulu (32) who was nabbed two months ago after a two year search for allegedly defrauding the Department of Labour’s (DoL) Compensation Fund (CF) more than a million rand will tomorrow (October 16) appear in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crime Court.

Mahuluhulu, an information technology (IT) boffin was arrested at his place of work at the University of South Africa (Unisa) after two years on the run. The “runaway” man is alleged to be working as a member of a syndicate responsible for defrauding the Department of Labour R1,2 million. He faces a charge of fraud.

He is out on a bail of R5 000. The accused was warned to report at least once a week at the Sunnyside police station and not to interfere with state witnesses and investigations.

The West of Pretoria-based Mahuluhulu is alleged to have siphoned the Department of Labour by submitting fictitious claims working in collaboration with a syndicate that included a former employee of the DoL’s Compensation Fund.

Mahuluhulu is alleged to have been evading justice since 2010. His alleged misdemeanours were committed between 2006 and 2009.

The Compensation Fund is a public entity of the Department of Labour. The Fund covers workers for occupational diseases and injuries.
