“Obey the rules of the road and arrive alive”

The Easter long weekend is coming to an end and most of our national roads will be congested as all road users will be travelling back home. Most road users are now tired after undertaking different activities throughout the weekend and the focus is mainly on arriving at home on time to prepare for work the following day.

Unfortunately, with the rush to arrive home early, most road users do not plan their trips properly and safety is not given top priority during the journey. These often results in a large number of accidents, deaths and injuries.

Motorists are urged to drive with care, especially where potholes, stray animals and pedestrians pose a hazard. Driving in wet weather worsens the situation and drivers are advised to obey all road traffic rules and regulations, especially which of observing a prudent following distance and driving within a safe speed limit.

“We are consciously optimistic that the fatalities so far suggest that this Easter weekend will be a better one than last year. We are awaiting other form of reports from remote areas including pedestrians involved in accidents. These will be finalised by the end of this week”, said Mr Collins Letsoalo, acting Chief Executive Officer of Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC).

The public is urged to report bad driving on 0861 400 800.
