MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Paul Sebegoe has urged newly elected ward councillors to commit to government’s priorities of accelerating service delivery in order to meet national targets as set by President Jacob Zuma in the State of the Nation address.
“Though your inauguration as councillors translates into a victory of your campaigning, let the ordinary citizens of the North West Province be the real winners who will stand to benefit by identifying service delivery gaps within your areas,” Sebegoe said.
Sebegoe has urged on councillors to work together with members of the public towards building more prosperous communities.
“The political foundation set by our leaders is solid, all we need to do now is work together to achieve so much more,” he said.
“While many of our citizens celebrate the delivery of basic services, it is undeniable that we have more that are still waiting to bask in the benefits of our democracy. Government can only reach its targets by promoting an interactive government where we are in constant dialogue with our constituencies,” he continued.
“In my interaction with communities across all four districts, the message is clear. The public applauds the services government provides them but a cry for improvement and accelerated delivery still persists,” Sebegoe said.
