The matter of six former employees of the Department of Labour’s (DoL) Compensation Fund (CF) and a Doctor alleged to have defrauded the State is to be heard on Tuesday (September 25) in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court.
The case was postponed on May 25 after a ‘no show’ by a lawyer representing one of the accused. After a series of postponements the accused are expected to plead.
The seven alleged fraud accused are: Maxwell Ramaphosa, Samuel Mfeleng, Kgabo Methi, Debbie Venter, Tendani Mukomafhedzi and Billy Ramskin - who are all former employees of DoL’s Compensation Fund and a Doctor Abel Diokana.
The septet faces four counts of fraud and two counts of money laundering amounting to R949 175,11. The accused are out on a warning.
The six former employees of the DoL’s CF are alleged to have working as a syndicate connived and recruited Diokana whom they allegedly channeled the fraudulent claims to his account.
Ramaphosa and Mfeleng are jointly ensnared in two other fraud cases currently on trial, in which they are alleged to be working with other syndicates and physiotherapists to defraud the Department of Labour.
The Compensation Fund is a public entity under the administration of Department of Labour. The CF provides for compensation of workers as a result of disability, illness and death resulting from work.
